During the procedure, a small incision is made in the targeted area, and a thin tube called a cannula is inserted to suction out the fat. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Incisions may be closed with small sutures, which may be absorbable or non-absorbable, or the incisions may be left open to allow for drainage of any excess fluid or blood.

Your Recovery Process

Liposuction recovery varies depending on the extent of the procedure and the individual's healing process. Generally, patients can expect to experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort for several days to weeks after the procedure. Compression garments may be worn to help reduce swelling and promote healing. Most patients are able to return to work and light activities within a week or two, but strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for several weeks.
